Dejima was founded in 2016 in the snow-covered city of Sapporo by Julien Ribassin. The same year he released his first commercial game, illumine.
This unconventional roguelike received high praise from websites and magazines such as Famitsu and was showcased in several game shows, including Bitsummit, BIC, IndieCade Europe and Game Happens.
Seoul based artist Gabe Miller is mostly known for his work on games like Strike Vector, Remilore and the bloodthirsty helicopter aztec goddess simulator Megacopter.
Gabe and Julien started exchanging ideas in 2017 and have been working exclusively remotely across two continents ever since. The first game that came out of their unexpected collaboration was Firegirl: Hack ‘n Splash Rescue for which they received the IGN Japan Media Award at Kyoto BitSummit in 2019 and an Epic Mega Grant in 2020. They are now working on their upcoming game, Elmin.
